The plenary session, held at 12:00 PM at the Town Hall, proceeded without incident, confirming the agreed-upon handover. Visiedo secured the necessary majority with the support of votes from the PP and the councilors of Turre para la Gente, while the PSOE maintained its alternative candidacy.
“"Everything went well, without any surprises."
In the vote, Visiedo obtained six votes compared to the four received by the socialist candidate. The socialist bench recorded an absence due to work reasons. This change in the Mayor's Office is a result of the agreement reached after the motion of no confidence in October 2023, which removed socialist María Isabel López from office and placed Arturo Grima (PP) at the head of the Consistory.
Grima formalized his resignation this week in an extraordinary plenary session to comply with the alternating mayoralty pact. The current configuration of the government team dates back to the municipal elections of 2023, when the PP and the candidacy linked to IU (from which the current councilors of Turre para la Gente originate) initially failed to reach an agreement, allowing López's investiture. Months later, both groups promoted the motion of no confidence that changed the local government's direction.
José Antonio Visiedo, who held the number three position in the Turre para la Gente candidacy, took office in April 2024 after the resignation of Martín Morales. It is important to note that both Morales and David Ruiz were expelled from IU, becoming unattached councilors, and that Visiedo did not participate in the motion of no confidence, a circumstance that now allowed his investiture. With this handover, the municipality of Turre faces the final stretch of the term with the commitment to stability agreed upon by both government partners.
