The Andalusian forest fire prevention and extinction service has intensified its operations in the province of Almeria this June 17. After bringing the fire in Carboneras under control, crews were redirected to the Sopalmo area in Mojácar, where a new fire broke out at 17:10.
To combat the flames in Mojácar, Infoca has deployed four aircraft, including two semi-heavy helicopters and two ground-loading planes. Ground operations are being carried out by two groups of forest firefighters, operations technicians, and an environmental agent.
Earlier, the fire that began at 09:50 in the Saltador area of Carboneras was stabilized by 16:00. Extinction efforts were complicated by wind gusts exceeding 60 kilometers per hour.
Currently, 59 professionals and three fire engines remain in Carboneras, conducting cooling operations to ensure the area is fully secured.
