The municipal plenary session of Huércal-Overa gave the green light last Monday for the transfer of spaces in the market to the Andalusian Health Service (SAS), part of the Junta de Andalucía. This measure aims to reinforce healthcare resources and improve services for families in the municipality.
The decision responds to the need to expand Pediatric services, as the current health center has become "too small." The premises, located on the ground and first floors of the market, will house Pediatric consultations, as well as school, community, and social work nursing services. The Councilor for Health, María José Viudez, highlighted that the market, "beautiful, modern, and accessible" after its recent renovation, will help "decongest" the health center and increase its efficiency.
The SAS will be responsible for adapting the premises and will cover all maintenance costs, electricity, water, waste management, and cleaning. The transfer of spaces is free of charge and will not incur additional expenses for the municipal coffers. The agreement stipulates that this is a temporary solution to the immediate space problems at the health center.
Viudez also stated that the City Council continues to advocate for the construction of a new health center, considered essential infrastructure for ensuring quality healthcare in the long term. Collaboration between administrations is seen as a way to meet current needs and move towards future infrastructure.
In addition to the health premises transfer, the municipal plenary session approved the update of the City Council's corporate image, adapting the historical coat of arms for current communication platforms. Dolores Zurano also took office as the new councilor for the socialist group, following the resignation of Esteban Requena.
