The mayor of Jerez emphasized the power of gastronomy as a vehicle for territorial integration and intercultural fusion. These statements were made during a live cooking event, or showcooking, held in the institutional tent of the Barbate City Council, within the framework of the XVIII Tuna Gastronomic Week.
The institutional meeting was attended by the mayor of Barbate, who welcomed the Jerez delegation. Both were accompanied by representatives from their respective government teams, underscoring the collaboration between the municipalities.
The showcooking focused on the preparation of a ‘Catana de gazpacho majao y atún’, a creation by the manager of a renowned Jerez restaurant. This establishment is known for its innovative approach and fusion cuisine, which integrates deep Gypsy roots and traditional Andalusian culinary heritage.
“"Jerez and Barbate are united by gastronomy, talent, and pride in what is ours; this space continues to build the province from the best we know how to do."
This activity is part of the gastronomic week's program, which was presented in Jerez on the 15th of this month. The event includes a fair and a route dedicated to tuna, one of the star products of Cadiz gastronomy, and has served to unite both localities in the context of the Spanish Gastronomy Capital.
The Tuna Week is structured around a series of activities that combine gastronomy, culture, tourism, and sustainability. Visitors can enjoy special tapas in 45 participating establishments, attend chef showcookings, take guided tours to the almadrabas to learn about sustainable fishing, and participate in a gastronomic contest and a market with local products.
