The Barbate City Council has announced the temporary closure of El Carmen beach during Thursday afternoon. The reason is the arrival of «dirty water» originating from the river outlets.
As reported by the council on social media, urgent measures are already being implemented for sand cleaning. This incident occurred after the rainfall recorded on Thursday morning, which caused wastewater to flow from the river outlets. Subsequently, the receding tide facilitated the arrival of this waste onto the beach.
As a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of bathers, given the inability to predict the water quality's short-term evolution, a provisional closure has been decided. The notice has also been broadcast via the beach's public address system.
The closure will remain in effect until water conditions allow for the guarantee of user safety. The City Council has requested public understanding, emphasizing that this provisional closure occurs in the midst of August, during the peak summer season.
