The new edition of the Vélez-Málaga Book Fair, organized by the Culture department, is presented as a focal point for various initiatives, debates, and discussions aimed at fostering the habit of reading. This event, which received a notable response in its 2025 edition, seeks to establish itself as a cultural benchmark in the locality.
“"A Book Fair oriented towards all types of audiences, with forums and spaces open to different age groups and with books and their impact as an indispensable element in sociocultural development."
This year's program is designed to be interactive and participatory, open to both residents and visitors. Plaza de las Carmelitas will once again be the epicenter of activities, hosting stalls for second-hand books and display points for local bookstores, such as Yerma, La Lonja, Zona Norte, and the new additions Librería Eli y Luis from Torre del Mar.
For the second consecutive year, an exclusive exhibition space has been set up for writers and authors from Vélez-Málaga, with the participation of some thirty representatives from the municipality. These authors will have the opportunity to showcase and sell their works, as well as interact with the public, sign copies, and present their latest creations. The Vélez-Málaga Reading Club will oversee the material management and sales.
The 2026 edition will feature prominent writers, novelists, and popularizers from both national and international scenes. Among them are the writer and philosopher José Antonio Marina, the writer and professor Francis Guerrero, the writer and philosopher Javier Gomá (through the María Zambrano Foundation), the novelist and Premio Planeta Espido Freire, and the popularizer and novelist J.J. Benítez.
Additionally, the II Meeting of Regional Reading Clubs will be held on Saturday, May 16, at the Centro del Exilio, featuring the novelist Andrés Neuman. On the same day, “El Universo de Lorca” will be presented, with a performance by singer Lucía Espín. The fair will also pay tribute to local writer Margarita García Galán.
Live music will also be a highlight, with educational concerts on Andalusian poetry for schools, an event with Trinity Plus, and two performances by the Municipal Music Band for adult audiences. Furthermore, a tribute to local poets will be presented through a theatrical and musical show where four actors will recite works by 23 authors. For children, activities include a performance by Lorena's Musical Theater, rock music by Kimi Rock, storytelling, and a bag printing workshop.
