The Vélez-Málaga City Council and Endesa Distribución have agreed on an investment plan to reinforce the municipality's electrical grid, including the installation of seven new transformation centers and network expansion.

The municipality of Vélez-Málaga will benefit from significant improvements to its electrical supply following an agreement between the City Council and Endesa Distribución. The collaboration aims to strengthen the local electrical grid, benefiting residents, businesses, and companies.
In a working meeting between the Councilor for Urban Planning, Celestino Rivas, and electricity company officials, priority actions were defined. These include the installation of seven new transformation centers in the coming months, as well as the expansion of low-voltage networks and an increase in available power in various areas of the municipality.
These measures are designed to enhance supply stability, reduce the frequency of incidents, and resolve power issues currently affecting many citizens and businesses. Both parties have committed to continuing the expansion of this infrastructure in the medium term, aiming to double the number of transformation centers initially planned.

"We are talking about very important actions for the present and future of Vélez-Málaga. These are investments that will improve the quality of the electrical supply, increase grid capacity, and provide a better response to the needs of our residents, businesses, and companies."

Celestino Rivas · Councilor for Urban Planning
Celestino Rivas highlighted that these actions address issues of supply cuts, voltage fluctuations, and power limitations in certain areas. The goal is to move towards a more modern and efficient grid, prepared for urban growth.
The councilor emphasized that ensuring quality basic services is a priority for the governing team and thanked Endesa for its willingness to collaborate in planning future investments for the benefit of the community.
Additionally, the progressive undergrounding of electrical cabling was discussed, a strategic initiative to improve urban aesthetics and public space safety. The City Council and Endesa commit to gradually advancing in this area, integrating necessary conduits in new municipal projects, particularly in the historic center.
This grid improvement complements the demands made by the Vélez-Málaga City Council to increase the available electrical capacity. Mayor Jesús Lupiáñez has repeatedly warned that the current grid saturation hinders the development of new urban and industrial sectors, affecting over 4,000 planned homes and significant investment projects.
The Consistory has requested the Ministry for Ecological Transition to incorporate new electrical infrastructures into the state planning to guarantee the necessary power to meet Vélez-Málaga's growth in the coming years.

"Our municipality cannot have its development halted due to a lack of energy capacity. We need a grid prepared to respond to the needs of families, businesses, and a city that continues to grow."

Jesús Lupiáñez · Mayor of Vélez-Málaga
