The cultural initiative is designed to enrich the collections of the municipality's four library centers, covering genres such as contemporary narrative, children's and youth literature, comics, and general reference works.
During the first half of the year, an initial amount of 7,240.43 euros has already been invested in acquiring this new bibliographic material, which is now available to users. The remaining budget will be allocated to the second half of the year, allowing for the progressive incorporation of editorial releases planned for the autumn.
The budget distribution was designed considering the volume of users and the capacity of each of the facilities. The Antonio de Hilaria Municipal Public Library, in the main area, receives the largest allocation with 6,650 euros annually. The libraries in La Cala del Moral and Torre de Benagalbón each have 3,400 euros, while the Benagalbón Public Library has an annual budget of 1,500 euros.
The Councilor for Culture, Paz Couto, explained that splitting the purchases into two periods aims to optimize shelf space and maintain reader interest throughout the year, preventing a concentration of new releases in a single month.
For his part, the mayor, Francisco Salado, highlighted that this purchasing plan is part of the ordinary maintenance of public cultural services, emphasizing the importance of these centers as spaces for meeting, learning, and free access to the latest editorial publications.
