The 'Gramola' program, one of the most anticipated activities for seniors in the province, has begun at Algarrobo beach. This initiative, organized by the Seniors delegation of the Diputación de Málaga, celebrates its sixth consecutive edition and aims to offer a complete day of healthy leisure to over 2,500 people aged 65 and above.
The inaugural day took place on Tuesday, July 7th, and is part of a series of six events that will extend until Thursday, July 16th. Each day, hundreds of participants, students from the Diputación's occupational workshops in municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants, will enjoy beach activities. This event, framed within the Plan Against Unwanted Loneliness, transforms the beach of the Axarquía town into a space for fun and social connection.
Over 500 seniors from municipalities such as Tolox, Yunquera, Alozaina, El Burgo, Casarabonela, Carratraca, Ardales, Almogía, Villanueva de la Concepción, Serrato, and Cuevas del Becerro participated in the opening day. They were welcomed by Vice President Antonia Ledesma, the Deputy for Seniors, José Santaolalla, and the host mayor, Natacha Rivas.
Attendees enjoyed live music from an orchestra, games designed to promote active aging, and a performance by Álvaro Alcaide. They also had the opportunity to taste products from 'Sabor a Málaga'. The activity has seen significant growth, expanding from its first edition to now gather over 2,500 participants.
Three additional days are scheduled for next week, with an estimated 400 seniors per day, from Tuesday, July 14th, to Thursday, July 16th. Vice President Ledesma highlighted the importance of these gatherings in promoting active aging, leisure, healthy habits, cognitive stimulation, social participation, and autonomy, thereby combating loneliness and isolation. She also mentioned other initiatives from the Seniors delegation, such as 'La Mayor Estrella', Sewing Workshops, and the upcoming 'Mes del Mayor' (Senior's Month).
