The rectification was formalized through the signing before a notary of the deed of cancellation of said registration. This step will allow the Council to complete the registration procedures once it has the authorized copy of the document, thus consolidating the public ownership of the enclave.
The process began in 2024, when the City Council became aware, through a local association, that the hermitage had been registered by the Diocese. From that moment, the necessary steps were taken to reverse the situation and ensure public ownership of the property.
During this period, various meetings were held between the Council and the legal advisory of the Diocese, including a meeting with the bishop of Malaga, in order to reach a consensual solution. The City Council provided documentation proving that the hermitage is located within fully municipal land, which was key to the final resolution.
“"With this step, the ownership of our San Isidro hermitage is definitively regularized, guaranteeing its public nature."
The San Isidro Hermitage, located next to the Nerja Cave, is a space of great historical and cultural relevance for the municipality. This regularization represents a significant advance in the protection and management of local public heritage.
