The town of Nerja has taken a significant step towards recovering one of its most emblematic locations. The council has initiated the rehabilitation project for the lower viewpoint of the Balcón de Europa, a site that once housed the former Rey Alfonso restaurant and is now being prepared for restoration.
Initial works are already underway with a pathology study, a crucial technical phase to analyze the current condition of the double viewpoint's structure. This diagnosis will define the necessary actions and the final budget for a project that will be co-financed by the City Council and the Junta de Andalucía.
The preliminary tasks are being carried out by the specialized company Tecnoaltura, which is performing tests on the floor slabs and inside the structure. Subsequently, the firm Cemosa will be responsible for developing the comprehensive study that will guide the intervention.
The project, designed by the municipal architect, includes a comprehensive intervention. Among the planned measures is the removal of all added layers over the original concrete structure, including carpentry, coatings, and the former restaurant's installations.
“"This is a decisive step to enhance one of the municipality's great tourist symbols and to recover the lower viewpoint of La Reola for public use."
The main objective is to restore the viewpoint's original essence, returning it to its 1960s state and reopening this privileged coastal space to the public. With this intervention, Nerja reinforces its commitment to heritage conservation and the improvement of its main tourist attractions, in a location that draws thousands of visitors each year.
