The fire, which originated in Árchez, has rapidly spread to neighboring municipalities due to flames jumping across a ravine, as explained by the mayor of Árchez, Mari Carmen Moreno. In her municipality, an avocado cultivation farm has been burned, and two homes have been evacuated. The mayor noted that the fire propagated with great speed towards Cómpeta, tripling the firefighting forces.
In Cómpeta, the fire has spread through a narrow area, leading to the preventive evacuation of an entire urbanization. Currently, there are no reports of personal injuries, and efforts are underway to control the flames. The president of the Mancomunidad de la Axarquía, Jorge Martín, has confirmed that the fire has primarily affected agricultural plots and reached some homes.
“"We had it under control but the fire jumped across a ravine."
The Infoca Plan reported that the fire was declared at 12:44 PM. Three helicopters, two ground-load aircraft, and one coordination aircraft are working on its stabilization, along with 17 ground personnel and a fire engine. The Junta de Andalucía has activated the emergency phase, operational situation 1.
Authorities recommend the public to avoid the area, follow the instructions of emergency services, stay indoors, and close doors and windows if smoke is present. Special attention is advised for vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly, and it is stressed not to approach the fire zone to avoid unnecessary risks.
