Personnel from the Málaga Provincial Fire Consortium remain deployed in the area, where smoke is constant due to persistent hot spots. The Provincial Council has confirmed that the risk of spread, one of the initial major concerns, has been eliminated.
Despite being under control, total extinction has been hampered by the characteristics of some of the affected facilities. Textile warehouses are particularly problematic, as roof collapses have exposed large volumes of material. Inside, bales of compressed clothing contain confined fire, preventing water and foam from reaching the core of the blaze.
“"The main difficulty is concentrated in the textile warehouses, where the collapse of the roofs has exposed large accumulations of material. Inside, bales of pressed clothing remain with confined fire, which prevents water and foam from reaching the core of the fire."
Given this situation, the operation has changed its strategy. Since Monday midday, heavy machinery has been brought in to carry out demolition and debris removal work. The objective is to gain access to hidden hotspots and allow for a combined effort to completely extinguish the flames.
The City Council activated the Emergency Plan in the area on Sunday night, following recommendations from the Provincial Fire Consortium. This measure aims to ensure the safety of workers and customers in nearby warehouses, as well as to facilitate the deployment of machinery and accelerate extinction efforts.
The fire, which started last Friday afternoon, has caused significant material damage and required a large deployment of personnel. Among the affected businesses is an artisanal ice cream shop, whose owner has expressed the impact of the fire on his family business after his warehouse was completely incinerated.
