The National Police have dismantled a dog and cat breeding facility in the Almayate area of Vélez-Málaga, where 300 animals were kept in unsanitary conditions. Officers arrested the business owner and an employee for continuous animal cruelty, including deaths, and for sexual abuse through intensive breeding.
The operation began after a passerby found a severely injured dog outside the premises. Investigators confirmed the existence of the breeding facility and the presence of buyers who had traveled from various parts of Andalusia.
During the three-day search, the 300 animals, including dogs and cats, were rescued and subsequently cared for and transferred to over ten animal protection organizations in the province of Málaga.
The facility was characterized by widespread accumulation of excrement, animals living among waste, and vulnerable young, posing a significant health risk. Many suffered from infectious diseases and parasites. Several breeding females required emergency sterilization due to uterine infections, and some dogs had severe injuries.
The veterinarian responsible for the animals' healthcare has also been investigated in connection with the events.
