The party's spokesperson has linked the mayor's haste to lease the Correos headquarters with an alleged attempt to transform the local administration's building into a luxury hotel. According to the opposition, this is the only possible explanation for the mayor's actions, describing the reasons given for leasing the postal office as «absurd».
“"It is a fallacious argument because the Correos building and the City Hall are only a few hundred meters apart."
The opposition has specified that if the employees currently working in the city hall palace are moved to the Correos building, the mayor could find the perfect excuse to proceed with the sale of the City Hall. They recalled that, although the plenary rejected this possibility by approving a motion from the PP, the mayor left open the possibility of resuming negotiations.
Furthermore, it has been noted that the Urban Planning Management would also see its employees transferred to the postal office headquarters. The opposition warns that both properties, of great heritage value, would be left unused due to a decision that, according to them, will be costly for municipal coffers.
The mayor has announced an investment of almost six million euros for the renovation of the central Correos headquarters. This figure, according to the opposition, highlights the poor state of the infrastructure and represents a waste of municipal funds, especially since the local administration will only lease the building instead of acquiring it. The PP has repeatedly requested information on the real costs of the leasing operation but has not received the required documentation.
The party proposes that the money be invested in projects demanded by the city's neighborhoods, arguing that it would be more beneficial to spend it on these needs than on a building that is not even municipal property.
