Under the title ‘The Conversation: Science That Is Told Is Science That Counts. Outreach with Impact’, the initiative aimed to enhance the transmission of scientific findings and knowledge. The session, promoted by the UJA's Unit for Scientific and Innovation Outreach (UCC+i), focused on providing attendees with storytelling resources.
The event took place on the Las Lagunillas Campus and was introduced by Julio Ángel Olivares Merino, Director of the Secretariat for Communication and Scientific Outreach. The main lecture was delivered by Elena Sanz, editorial director of The Conversation Spain, who detailed narrative techniques applied to outreach. Subsequently, a debate panel allowed UJA researchers Francisco Esteban Ruiz and Antonio Félix Vico Prieto to share their practical experiences.

During the workshop, essential narrative elements were addressed, such as data economy, emotional components, the use of metaphors and textual connectors to build rapport with the reader. Julio Ángel Olivares emphasized that the meeting was an immersive experience and a forum for discussing strategies for transmitting scientific knowledge, both to society and within the classroom.
The University of Jaén maintains a strategic agreement with The Conversation, an internationally recognized digital platform, to ensure rigor and clarity in knowledge communication. This agreement aligns with the UJA's strategy to ensure that excellent research reaches a broad and diverse audience, also facilitating compliance with dissemination requirements from its Own Research and Transfer Plan and ANECA's criteria.
This training action is part of the University of Jaén's XVI Plan for Scientific and Innovation Outreach, with the support of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT).
