While Sierra de Cazorla is widely recognized, Sierra Mágina offers an equally rich and less explored experience. This region is known as the “natural park of medieval castles” due to the high concentration of these historical structures.

For centuries, Sierra Mágina served as a crucial military frontier between the Kingdom of Castile and the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada. This warlike past has left an indelible mark on its landscape, dotted with castles, walls, turrets, small fortresses, and watchtowers that protected the territory.

Although many of these buildings have succumbed to the passage of time, some remain standing and have been restored. The Castles of Jódar and La Guardia de Jaén are prominent examples, having been converted into museums and opened to the public, allowing visitors to delve into the region's history.
