This move follows the attainment of a seat as an Andalusian regional MP by the current president of the institution, Francisco Reyes, as a result of the regional elections held on May 17.
The Secretary of Organization, Víctor Torres, explained that today's Provincial Executive meeting focused on addressing this institutional handover. "On Monday, the necessary bodies will be convened until, ultimately, the Provincial Committee designates the new candidate for the Presidency of the Provincial Council, all with the aim of formalizing this change as soon as possible," stated Torres.
The Provincial Executive session also served to conduct an initial assessment of the election results from May 17. Torres acknowledged that "these are not satisfactory results for the PSOE," although he highlighted some positive data for the province. Jaén stood out as one of the two Andalusian provinces with the highest turnout, exceeding the 2022 elections by more than six points, and consolidated itself as "the Andalusian province with the highest rate of support for the PSOE, above 27%, four points above the regional average."
This support allowed the party to retain its fourth parliamentary seat, despite previous polls predicting only three. The socialist official announced that the party will soon convene the remaining provincial bodies to analyze the results in detail, municipality by municipality, with an eye on the municipal elections in May 2027. "We are going to put in a great effort," concluded Torres.
