According to information gathered by the political group, residues of olive mill wastewater—a byproduct of olive oil production—and pig slurry have reportedly been found in the watercourse. This stream flows into the Montizón River, and the affected area is situated near an olive oil cooperative and several pig farms.
The reported incidents are said to have coincided with a period of heavy rainfall associated with storm Leonardo. PACMA suggests that these conditions might have been exploited to facilitate the dispersion of the waste, thereby exacerbating the environmental impact.
These types of practices pose a direct threat to fluvial ecosystems, biodiversity, and health.
PACMA's complaint includes substantial evidence and the testimony of a direct witness. The party believes that these discharges could constitute a serious violation of current environmental legislation, infringing upon the constitutional right to a suitable environment, as stipulated in Article 45 of the Spanish Constitution.
In response to this situation, the organization has requested the urgent implementation of precautionary measures to prevent further damage, the initiation of proceedings to clarify the facts and assign criminal, administrative, and civil liabilities. Furthermore, they have sought access to procedural information as an interested party should the complaint proceed to court.
