The regional administration has emphasized the commitment of schools in Jaén to environmental education. These initiatives aim to turn schools into sustainable learning hubs, promoting habits such as waste reduction, efficient use of natural resources, and respect for the social and natural environment.
Within the Andalusian Eco-schools Network, which includes hundreds of centers across the region, 24 institutions from the province of Jaén are currently participating. The program addresses global challenges such as climate change and biodiversity, while facilitating the exchange of experiences among teachers and coordinators.
These initiatives transform schools into sustainable learning centers, fostering respect for the environment and the improvement of the natural surroundings.
Additionally, the Open Green Classrooms project focuses on the renaturalization of outdoor spaces. In the province, 10 public schools are participating in this initiative, which transforms schoolyards into healthy environments through the installation of gardens, natural furniture, and shaded areas, supported by technical advice and funding from the administration.
