These young talents were chosen by the jury from among 48 performers from four continents who gathered in Jaén to participate in this competition, organized by the Provincial Council of Jaén. The second phase will run from 10:00 AM on Monday, April 13, until the evening of Tuesday, April 14, with free admission until full capacity is reached.
During this stage, the public will be able to enjoy performances by pianists such as Laura Ballestrino, Germán García Pérez, and Miguel Iglesias Lista from Spain; Tom Carré, Arthur Gautier, and Ionah Maiatsky from France; Anaïs Cassiers from Belgium; Zheng Chen, Yang Gao, and Jingyi He from China; Ruggiero Fiorella from Italy; Ayumu Ibaraki and Yusuke Suzuki from Japan; Herman Harrison from Australia; Hyelim Kim, Taegyu Kim, and Hyojin Shin from South Korea; Pin-Hong Lin from Taiwan; and Alexandra Segal from Israel.
Contestants will have a maximum of 50 minutes for their performance. They must interpret this edition's commissioned work, titled 'Tres morillas m’enamoran', composed by Alberto Carretero, who presented the piece at a previous event in the same theater. Additionally, it will be mandatory to perform a selection of works that includes a sonata by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, or Schubert, and a piece of Spanish music to choose from Iberia or Navarra by Albéniz; Fantasía Bética or Cuatro Piezas Españolas by Falla; or a work from Goyescas by Granados.
Mastery of this repertoire will be crucial for the awarding of two special prizes: the Contemporary Music award, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, for the best interpreter of the commissioned work; and the 'Rosa Sabater' award, sponsored by the Jaén City Council, for the best interpreter of Spanish music. Both awards are endowed with 6,000 euros each.
Following this phase, the jury will announce the qualifiers for the semifinal or third round, which will focus on chamber music and feature the participation of the prestigious Cuarteto Cosmos. This semifinal, also with free admission, will take place on Wednesday, April 15, and Thursday, April 16, respectively, at the Nuevo Teatro Infanta Leonor. The 67th Jaén International Piano Prize will conclude on Saturday, April 18, with the grand final, where the three finalist pianists will perform alongside the Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga, conducted by Salvador Vázquez. Tickets for the final are available for 10 euros through the Eventick platform.
