The Provincial Judicial Police Brigade of the Provincial Police Station of Jaén has arrested a 50-year-old male for a crime against privacy and the right to one's own image. The incident occurred on the afternoon of June 3rd in the Study Room of the University of Jaén (UJA) building, where the individual surreptitiously placed a switched-on mobile phone under a table to record an intimate images of a student without her consent.
Upon being discovered, the suspect fled to a disabled restroom on an intermediate floor of the building and threw the phone into a drainpipe to conceal it, thus preventing its seizure by the police. Several police units responded to the scene following calls from the victim and witnesses.
The UDEV – Persons investigation group took charge of the case and traveled to the University of Jaén with Scientific Police. It was necessary to break through walls and the floor of the restroom to recover the device, which had been hidden in the drainpipe.
Several witnesses confirmed seeing the man extend his hand under the table with his mobile phone on in camera mode, displaying the red video activation button. The device had been recording intimate images of the victim for approximately one minute.
Following the analysis of the device, the detainee was handed over to the competent Judicial Authority and subsequently released.
