Agents from the National Police arrested a 50-year-old man at the University of Jaén (UJA) for an alleged crime against privacy and the right to one's own image. The incident occurred on June 3rd in the university library's study hall, where the detainee allegedly placed an active mobile phone under a table to record a student's intimate parts without her consent.
After being discovered by campus security and detained by students, the individual went to a disabled restroom where he attempted to hide the phone in the drain to prevent police intervention. Several police units arrived at the scene following calls from the victim and witnesses.
The investigative group UDEV – Persons took charge of the investigation. Officers from the Scientific Police visited the UJA to conduct a technical-visual inspection and recover the device, which required breaking walls and the floor of the restroom. Witnesses confirmed seeing the man manipulating his phone suspiciously under the table with the camera activated.
The investigation revealed that the detainee already had a record for similar conduct and child pornography. Following forensic study and analysis of the device, the detainee was handed over to the competent judicial authority and was subsequently released.
