Despite overall growth in Andalusia, Jaén province saw a significant drop in contributors, although the year-on-year trend remains positive.

In March, the province of Jaén experienced a decrease of 12,434 Social Security affiliates, being the only one in Andalusia with this negative trend, despite the generalized growth in the community.

Data released by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration reveals that, while Andalusia added 50,543 affiliates in March, reaching a total of 3,558,969 contributors, the province of Jaén recorded a 4.85% drop. This setback contrasts with the increase in the rest of the Andalusian provinces, where Huelva stood out with a 9.68% increase.
Despite the monthly decrease, the year-on-year outlook for Jaén is more favorable. Compared to March of the previous year, the province has added 7,646 affiliates, representing a 3.24% growth. This figure aligns with the positive trend observed across all Andalusian provinces over the past year.

"The March data is doubly negative: we are the only province where unemployment rises, and we also lose more than 12,000 affiliations. This is not a coincidence; it is the consequence of a productive model excessively dependent on agriculture, with high rotation and little stability."

Joaquín Armenteros · Secretary of Employment and Union Action for CCOO Jaén
Regionally, affiliation in Andalusia grew by 2.63% year-on-year, with 91,147 more contributors than a year ago. The community ranks as the second region with the highest employment growth in the last year, only surpassed by the Community of Madrid. This increase is complemented by a reduction in unemployment in Andalusia, which in March decreased by 8,836 people, bringing the total number of unemployed to 579,638.
Nationally, the Social Security added 211,510 contributors in March, mainly driven by the hospitality sector due to the Easter campaign. This increase marks the highest record for a March in the historical series, raising the average number of affiliates to 21,882,147 people. Minister Elma Saiz highlighted that employment continues to grow steadily, exceeding 22 million affiliates in seasonally adjusted terms.
