The first re-railing test of Jaén's tram system took place at the Vaciacostales depots, involving a comprehensive municipal security deployment. Approximately 30 members of the Fire Department and 7 Local Police officers participated in this coordinated operation.
The exercise consisted of a controlled simulation of a hypothetical tram unit derailment. The primary objective was to verify established procedures, available technical resources, and the operational coordination required to safely and efficiently return the vehicle to the tracks.
The Councillor for Local Police, Firefighters, and Transport, María del Carmen Angulo, oversaw the practice. During the simulation, key phases of a real intervention were replicated, including securing the area, isolating installations, positioning guided lifting equipment, performing the re-railing maneuver, and conducting a final check of the vehicle's and infrastructure's condition.
“"These drills are fundamental to ensuring an effective and coordinated response to any incident that may occur in the tram system. The continuous training of personnel allows for quick, safe, and efficient action, minimizing risks for both operators and citizens."
For his part, Vicente Giménez, head of the Technical Assistance Unit for Tram System Pre-operation, explained that these simulations are an essential part of the pre-service phase. Their purpose is to force incident situations so that personnel learn to act in real scenarios, such as a derailment, ensuring the equipment is restored with all safety guarantees.
Giménez announced that these types of tests will continue both during the pre-operation stage and once the tram is in service, with the aim of perfecting action protocols. Councillor Angulo thanked the participating personnel for their involvement, highlighting their professionalism and effort, and emphasized that these exercises improve coordination among municipal services and enhance the safety of Jaén's future tram service.
