The Jaén City Council has approved the administrative file for the public domain concession of the more than one hundred advertising supports currently distributed throughout the city. The main objective is to rationalize their presence in public spaces, reducing their number to approximately 40 elements and replacing them with digital, more sustainable models powered by solar panels.
This was announced by the Councilor for Heritage and Environment, José María Cano, who stated that the current situation creates «a significant visual and environmental impact» due to the excess of these elements. The councilor emphasized the municipal goal for outdoor advertising to be «compatible with a more orderly, sustainable city that respects its heritage».
Particular emphasis has been placed on the need to avoid installing panels in the old town, as, in the councilor's opinion, they «generate visual pollution that distorts the historical and aesthetic value of the central area».
The new model will feature digital supports made from anti-corrosive and more durable materials, equipped with solar power systems. Cano advocated for a «comprehensive renovation» to replace the current elements, described as «obsolete» and occupying unnecessary urban space, with others «more modern, efficient, and adapted to the sustainability and quality criteria» that the City Council aims for the city.
The public domain concession file has already been initiated by the Heritage Department, a procedure that will allow for the renewal of the service and contribute to more efficient management of public space.
