María Espejo, the first deputy mayor and Councillor for Culture and Tourism, represented Jaén at this significant gathering. During the assembly, the incorporation of six new localities into the network was formalized: Sevilla, Calatayud, Melilla, Uncastillo, Llerena, and Valencia de Alcántara, thereby significantly expanding the reach and projection of this cultural initiative.
The event also served as an opportunity to review the main actions carried out in 2026. Among these, a notable highlight was the agreement signed between the Municipal Board of Culture and the Darom Institute of Hebrew Studies of Granada, in collaboration with the Iuventa Association. This agreement aims primarily to promote the dissemination of Sephardic culture in Jaén and its surrounding areas.
As part of the activities preceding the assembly, the Segovia City Council organized a guided tour of the Segovian Jewish quarter for all attendees. This initiative sought to foster the exchange of experiences and models for the conservation of historical heritage among member cities.
“"It is a satisfaction to carry the name of Jaén and to ratify the centuries of history that endorse it as a member city. Participation in this forum allows us to strengthen our unwavering commitment to preserving the Sephardic legacy present in the historic quarter."
Councillor María Espejo emphasized that belonging to this network is crucial for giving visibility to emblematic sites in Jaén, such as the Plaza de los Huérfanos, and for highlighting relevant historical figures like Hasday Ben Shaprut, whose trajectory is closely linked to the city.
