The initiative, detailed in a statement, seeks to promote itineraries that benefit the Andalusian capital, highlighting the monarch's stay on December 14 and 15, 1526, as a «magnificent reason» for their development.
The proposed routes are linked to local history and culture. Among them, a tour dedicated to the Catholic Monarchs is mentioned, who resided in the episcopal palace of Jaén between May and October 1489. The figure of Ferdinand III the Saint is also included, who two centuries earlier ordered the erection of the cross of the Castle of Santa Catalina.
In the literary field, itineraries related to figures such as San Juan de la Cruz are proposed, whose original codex of the Spiritual Canticle is guarded by the nuns of the Convent of Santa Teresa. Likewise, the connection of Federico García Lorca with Jaén is highlighted, where he stayed in 1925 and was «impressed by the aesthetics and landscape».
Another relevant poet for the city is Miguel Hernández, who resided in the old town and has a commemorative plaque in the Plaza de los Naranjos. The proposal also suggests promoting the French Way, referring to the stay in Jaén of figures such as the writer Alexandre Dumas, author of The Three Musketeers, and President Charles de Gaulle, who concluded his memoirs in the Parador de Santa Catalina.
“"We are convinced that if the PSOE and Jaén Merece Más government team commit to these routes, the tourist appeal of the capital will be strengthened, and the number of visitors will increase."
According to the Popular Group, the importance of history and culture is magnified when linked to the characters who left a significant mark on them, which would contribute to boosting tourism in the city.
