During March, registered unemployment in Andalusia showed a decrease of 8,836 people, representing a 1.5% drop and bringing the total number of unemployed to 579,638. This positive trend is even more pronounced year-on-year, with 63,584 fewer unemployed, a 9.89% reduction.
However, Jaén deviated from this favorable dynamic, being the only Andalusian province where the number of unemployed increased, adding 58 more people to its lists. In contrast, Cádiz led the decrease in unemployment with 2,352 fewer unemployed, followed by Seville with 1,939 and Málaga with 1,863.
Jaén's negative evolution is particularly relevant, as it contradicts the general downward trend in unemployment both in Andalusia and across the country, highlighting the structural difficulties of the labor market in the province.
The decrease in unemployment in Andalusia was mainly concentrated in the services sector, with 7,351 fewer unemployed, followed by construction (-2,167) and industry (-527). On the other hand, agriculture saw an increase of 522 unemployed, and the group without previous employment added 687 people. The services sector remains the most affected, with over 402,000 unemployed.
Regarding hiring, Andalusia registered 292,542 contracts in March, 25.24% less than a year ago. Despite this, permanent contracts grew by 17.64%, reaching 124,823, although temporary contracts still constitute the majority, representing 57.3% of the total.
Nationally, unemployment also decreased in March by 22,934 people, a 0.9% drop, settling at 2.41 million, its lowest level for this month in the last 18 years. The services sector was once again the main driver of this widespread improvement.
