The Carlos III Municipal Theater in La Carolina hosted the Jaén leg of the second edition of the Andalusian Circuit of Young Flamenco Artists last Saturday. This event is one of eight provincial gatherings held across Andalusia to discover and promote emerging talent in the art of flamenco, targeting young people aged 14 to 25.
The initiative receives institutional support, evidenced by the presence of representatives from the Andalusian Flamenco Institute and the territorial delegation of Culture and Sport in Jaén. This circuit is consolidating as a key platform for the professionalization of the new generation of flamenco artists.
The call for entries, published in the BOJA on February 19, selected 64 artists from across Andalusia. The provincial stage in Jaén is crucial, as it will determine some of the 16 semifinalists who will advance to the next round. The itinerant structure of the competition across the eight provinces ensures equal opportunities for all young talents, regardless of their place of origin.
What differentiates this edition from the previous one is the scale of the stages awaiting the selected artists.
The 16 semifinalists will have the opportunity to participate in at least three high-level performances: the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla, the National Music Auditorium of Madrid, and a special event on Flamenco Day. This national exposure is a significant boost for young artists, offering them visibility that few youth platforms can match.
The program is organized in collaboration with the Provincial Federations of Flamenco Clubs and aims to stimulate young creation, generate exhibition and professionalization opportunities, and strengthen the connection between new talents and the flamenco associative fabric. Furthermore, it seeks to attract new young audiences to ensure the generational continuity of an art declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
