This sporting event, now a fixture in Jaén's calendar, paid tribute to Chus Castro, recognized for his outstanding work as a player, coach, and director, as well as his contribution as an employee of the Municipal Sports Board. The tournament, organized by the Jaén Handball Friends Group, keeps his memory alive year after year.
One of the most emotional moments of the day was the match between the local club's veterans and Balonmano Europa. Although the team from Almería won 24-25, the result was secondary, prioritizing the commemorative aspect and camaraderie among participants.
The memorial also dedicated significant attention to youth development, with six additional matches. These games, played by junior and cadet teams, were non-competitive, aiming to foster the values of grassroots sports and participation among young athletes.
The Councilor for Sports, Beatriz López, attended the event, accompanied by the president of GAB Jaén, as well as relatives of the honored figure. The day served to highlight the rich history of handball in Jaén and the legacy of those who have contributed to its growth.
