The Councillor for Equality, Eva Funes Jiménez, chaired the jury meeting, which included the Permanent Commission of the Local Council for Equality between Women and Men and gender experts. This committee evaluated a total of 15 nominations to select the deserving recipients of these important awards.
Among the awardees are Consuelo Díez Bedmar, recognized for her academic and research career at the University of Jaén, with over a hundred publications and a strong commitment to incorporating a gender perspective in education. Also honored were María Antonia Romero Quesada for her extensive teaching career and involvement in co-education, and María del Mar Shaw Morcillo for her legal work defending women's rights in various professional fields.
Furthermore, the Progressive Women against Discrimination and Gender Violence Association was awarded for its more than two decades of activity in the fight against gender violence. The youth project La Pecera, promoted by IES Jabalcuz, also received an award for fostering equality and awareness among young people through educational and social initiatives.
Finally, the award proposed by the Mayor's Office went to Luisa Medina, in recognition of her more than thirty years in the performing arts, where she has created works with social content and actively advocated for equality. These awards underscore Jaén's commitment to building a more just society and eradicating gender violence.
