The event, organized by the Andalusian Council of Medical Colleges and the Official College of Physicians of Jaén, took place in the emblematic Santa María Square. Throughout the day, various speakers highlighted the dedication and commitment of the professionals who make up Primary Care.
“"Caring for public healthcare is caring for the dignity of our society."
The mayor of Jaén, Julio Millán, emphasized the valuable contribution of all Primary Care staff, from doctors to nurses, administrative personnel, and support staff. He highlighted their “professionalism, vocation, and ability to accompany and care, even under the worst conditions.” Furthermore, Millán recalled the City Council's collaboration in infrastructure improvements, considering health centers as “an essential part of neighborhoods” and key elements for urban development.
For his part, the president of the Provincial Council, Paco Reyes, underscored the role of Primary Care professionals as “the gateway to the healthcare system,” responsible for initial care, diagnosis, and patient referrals. Reyes expressed his support for these professionals, alluding to current difficulties, such as delays of up to 15 days for an appointment, and defended the event's advocacy nature to demand “fair” healthcare in the province.
The acting delegate of the Andalusian Government, Ana Mata, also participated in the event, emphasizing the importance of this commemoration to recognize the daily commitment of those who sustain the healthcare system through their close interaction with patients. The day was attended by other representatives from the healthcare sector, such as the president of the College of Physicians of Jaén, Gerardo Pérez Chica, thus combining institutional recognition with the demand for solutions to the challenges facing public healthcare.
