Organized by the Socio-Cultural Volunteer Association Iuventa and the Civitas Lucis Association, with the support of the Municipal Board of Culture, Tourism, Festivals, and Historical Heritage, this series commenced with a workshop dedicated to Jewish heritage.
Professor and graduate in Visual Arts, Gimena Ponce, led the workshop titled 'Sefarad: Jewish Heritage and the Symbolism of the Layout'. She was assisted by José Antonio Mesa Beltrán, a doctor in University Heritage, who provided essential historical context for the participants.
Registered attendees had the opportunity to immerse themselves in Jaén's history, exploring the Jewish legacy through art and understanding its profound symbolism. Gimena Ponce presented three creative proposals: the amulet of Sefarad with the Hand of Miriam, the Landscapes of Memory with the Star of David, and the Lighthouse of Hope with The Menorah, providing all necessary materials.
This workshop fulfills the objective of having made an immersion into the spirituality and aesthetics of Jaén's Jewish quarter through a combination of historical rigor and artistic creation.
The Municipal Board of Culture highlighted that this initiative allowed for an immersion into the spirituality and aesthetics of Jaén's Jewish quarter, blending historical accuracy with artistic expression. The project is supported by the Network of Jewish Quarters 'Caminos de Sefarad', underscoring the city's commitment to preserving and disseminating its valuable medieval heritage.
The series will continue next Saturday, April 18, with the session 'Light, Geometry, and the Muslim Legacy'. The third and final session, scheduled for April 25, will focus on Christian Jaén under the title 'Iconography and the Consolidation of the Kingdom'. Pre-registration is required for these events.
