The event, presided over by second vice-president Francisca Medina, highlighted the service's trajectory since its establishment in 1985-1986, emphasizing its public commitment, dedication to service, and defense of the right to health and social inclusion for vulnerable individuals. The Council's foresight in addressing a complex social reality and providing a structured public response to drug dependency was acknowledged.

The commemoration featured an inaugural lecture on the service's history and future challenges, delivered by Alfredo Castillo and Joan Carles March. Subsequently, two technical panels were held. The first, titled 'Different Perspectives on Addiction,' included magistrate Valle Elena, psychologist José Miguel Martínez, and the director of the Andalusian Plan on Drugs and Addictions, Francisco Vázquez. The second panel reviewed the milestones of the past 40 years with contributions from Salvador Rodríguez, Mohamed Omar, and Alfonso Ramírez. The event concluded with the presentation of awards to individuals and institutions instrumental in the service's development.

The commemorative program will extend until the end of the year, featuring a June meeting on the legal aspects of addictive behaviors and a November session focusing on the gender perspective in addiction intervention. Cultural activities are also planned, including the creation of a mural and the screening of the documentary Flores para Antonio, about the life of musician Antonio Flores.

The commemorative cycle began on April 29th with a lecture by José César Perales, Professor of Experimental Psychology at the University of Granada, on new digital addictions.
