As part of the World Ostomy Day, nursing professionals from the General Surgery department at the Juan Ramón Jiménez University Hospital set up an information booth at the entrance of the outpatient clinics. The aim was to provide information and advice on ostomy care and management.
This year, the initiative included the participation of the president and other members of the recently formed Huelva Association of Ostomy Patients (AOHU). Their firsthand experiences offered valuable testimonies to support those beginning or going through this life process.
With the support of the hospital's nursing management, both entities emphasized that an ostomy does not define a person. They highlighted that behind every bag are stories, fears, questions, and moments of uncertainty, but also the capacity to learn, adapt, regain autonomy, and continue with life projects.
The event advocated for care beyond medical treatment, stressing that listening, understanding, accompanying, and helping to restore confidence are fundamental aspects of comprehensive care.
