The initiative, part of the Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan “OleotourJaén” and funded with 4.5 million euros from Next Generation EU funds, aims to enhance the value of the iconic Jaén “sea of olive trees” and redistribute tourist flow to showcase its historical, cultural, biological, and productive richness.
The Deputy of Promotion and Tourism, Francisco Javier Lozano, emphasized that the project represents a “turning point” for provincial tourism, rooted in the identity of the olive grove. Actions include infrastructure improvements and the creation of viewpoints offering “a specific perspective” on this unique global landscape, according to Lozano.
The provincial network of viewpoints is complemented by the construction of artistic viewpoints in towns such as Úbeda, Jaén, Porcuna, Chiclana de Segura, La Bobadilla (Alcaudete), Arjona, Orcera, and Albanchez de Mágina, along with tourist signage in nearly twenty municipalities. Emblematic sites like Iznatoraf and Baños de la Encina are also included, some featuring digital tools like audio guides and virtual viewpoints.
In Porcuna, viewpoints have been developed on the Paseo de Jesús, enhancing an existing balcony with panoramic views of the northern Campiña region, incorporating shaded areas, improving accessibility, and creating garden spaces linked to the Monument to the Olive Tree and Olive Oil Memory.
Another key line of action is the creation of experiential trails for tourists to explore the landscape on foot or by bicycle, marked with interpretive tables. These routes connect with unique centuries-old olive trees such as the Acebuche (La Iruela) or the Olivo de Fuentebuena (Arroyo del Ojanco), and link to historical routes like the Torres de Santa Catalina (Orcera) or the Antonio Machado Path in Úbeda and Baeza.
Additionally, a network of scenic roads has been designed through the Provincial Road Network, inviting tourists to admire the olive grove landscape across regions like La Campiña, Sierra Sur, La Loma, El Condado, Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas, or Sierra Mágina.
