Jaén's Plaza de Santa María will become the epicenter of international 3x3 basketball at the end of September with the celebration of a tournament that will bring together 12 teams.

The provincial capital will position itself on the global 3x3 basketball map with this championship, scheduled for the weekend of September 26th and 27th. The competition will not only focus on the sport but will also include various parallel activities.
The event's presentation was attended by the third vice-president of the Provincial Council, África Colomo; the mayor of Jaén, Julio Millán; the president of the Tres por Jaén Foundation and Jaén CB, José María Comas; the director of 3x3 Plaza, María Amarilla; and Olympic ex-player José Manuel Calderón.
África Colomo described the event as “one of the major sporting events of the year in our province,” highlighting institutional collaboration and the benefits for citizens, territorial promotion, and economic revitalization.
Julio Millán emphasized that the tournament caters to basketball fans and promotes the sport's presence in the streets as a sporting venue, underscoring the promotion for the city that the celebration in Plaza de Santa María, at the foot of the Cathedral, will bring. The mayor also committed to continuing the implementation of facilities for this sport modality in the city.
José Manuel Calderón described 3x3 as a “special” and more dynamic competition than traditional basketball, with different rules, more contact, and a mix of other sports, making it adaptable to current society and with great growth potential.
José María Comas expressed the goal of growing this sport in the territory, reinforcing the opportunity this event presents and taking it to the highest level thanks to its privileged location.
María Amarilla praised the “image of the court with the cathedral behind it,” calling it “difficult to match.” She detailed that the group stage matches will be played on Saturday, September 26th, while Sunday, September 27th, will feature the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final, complemented by music, dining, and raffle activities.
