The province of Jaén registers a significant increase in gender violence convictions, reaching 44.6% more in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. Courts in Jaén have gone from 47 convictions in 2025 to 68 in 2026. This rise occurs despite a slight decrease in the total number of registered victims, which fell from 517 to 469.
The rate of gender violence complaints remains stable at 18.1 per 10,000 women, a figure similar to the previous year. The majority of victims are Spanish (357 in 2026), although foreign victims have decreased. Complaints primarily originate from police reports (564 in 2026), followed by direct victim complaints (446).
The number of men prosecuted has also increased considerably, from 53 in 2025 to 78 in 2026. Convictions of Spanish citizens represent the majority, with a notable increase compared to the previous year.
Regarding the relationship between victims and aggressors, cases involving ex-partners (66) and affective relationships (31) are the most frequent in 2026. Protection orders have seen an increase, rising from 104 in 2025 to 134 in 2026.
The most common offenses in 2026 include injuries and mistreatment (Article 153 of the Penal Code) with 249 cases, and others related to Article 173 with 159. There is an uptick in breaches of sentences and judicial measures.
At the Andalusian level, the number of women victims of gender violence has decreased by 2.9% in the first quarter of 2026, to 8,463 cases. However, applications for and grants of protection orders have increased by 2.2% and 2.6% respectively.
The president of the Observatory against Domestic and Gender Violence, Esther Rojo, notes that the increase in complaints nationwide (6.36% more) is positive, but warns that gender violence remains a structural reality. She highlights that nearly three out of every four complaints are filed directly by the victims.
Esther Rojo also points to the increase in victims who invoke the right to refrain from testifying against their aggressor, which complicates judicial proceedings. Despite a slight absolute decrease in protection orders, the proportion between applications and grants remains stable, close to 70%.
