The University Hospital of Jaén hosted the welcome ceremony for 71 new specialists beginning their residency training at various healthcare facilities under the Andalusian Health Service (SAS). The event was led by the hospital's managing director, María Belén Martínez, and the Head of Studies, Miguel Ortigosa. The program included training on occupational risk prevention and experiences shared by residents from previous cohorts.
María Belén Martínez emphasized the comprehensive training the new professionals will receive, preparing them for their clinical, teaching, and research roles. She expressed gratitude for the residents' choice to train in the province of Jaén and highlighted the hospital's commitment to their professional development.
This year, the hospital will train 54 resident internal physicians (MIR), one resident internal biologist (BIR) in Clinical Analysis, three resident internal pharmacists (FIR) —two in Clinical Pharmacy and one in Clinical Analysis—, two clinical psychologists, and eleven nursing specialists. The represented specialties are diverse, including Allergology, Cardiology, Neurology, Pediatrics, Medical Oncology, Radiodiagnosis, Rheumatology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Psychiatry, and Urology, among over thirty disciplines.
A notable addition for this cohort is the introduction of the first training specialist for the Emergency Unit at the University Hospital of Jaén. In nursing, four midwives, two specialists in Pediatric Nursing, three in Mental Health, and two in Occupational Health Nursing are joining. All residents will be supported by designated tutors and coordinated by the hospital's Teaching Commission.
