Sisters of Bethlehem's Cross to Adorn Pope's Altar in Madrid

A replica of an artwork by the Huelva-based monastic community will be displayed at the papal mass, bringing them great joy.

A 4.5-meter tall cross, inspired by an artisanal work by the Sisters of Bethlehem based in Huelva, will preside over the altar during the mass officiated by the Pope in Madrid.

The monastic community of the Sisters of Bethlehem, with a presence in the province of Huelva, will have a significant representation during the Pope's upcoming visit to Spain. A large 4.5-meter tall cross, inspired by an artwork they created, will be suspended above the central altar during the mass to be held in Madrid.
The sisters, who are working towards founding the Monastery of the Goodness of God in Huelva, have expressed their immense joy at having their artisanal work featured alongside the pontiff. Sister Sol Miriam, a member of the Monastic Family of Bethlehem, had previously hinted at the possibility of attending the event, highlighting the special permission granted for their participation in the mass.

"The Pope is coming to Spain and we have been granted special permission, as we are the only representatives of the Sisters of Bethlehem in Spain. We have been allowed to attend the Mass during Corpus Christi, and furthermore, the event organizers have informed us that they will feature a recreation of one of our crucifixes on the altar where the Pope will offer the Eucharist. This has brought us great joy."

In addition to the cross, the Monstrance to be used during the youth vigil preceding the mass will also be a creation of the Monastic Family of Bethlehem, further emphasizing their presence at this important occasion for the Church in Spain.
The cross to be displayed at the papal mass is also located on the land where the sisters aim to establish their convent in Marigenta, Zalamea la Real. Last July, the bishop of Huelva blessed this site, which the sisters describe as a place that holds the intentions of the Church and the world, and serves as a space of welcome.
The project for the future monastery in Zalamea la Real is progressing. Architect Carlos Hermoso recently presented the first phase of the project, which includes an initial construction of 1,000 square meters. The sisters are actively seeking funding through a donation platform and reaching out to foundations and entrepreneurs to realize their initiative.
