The incident, which caused a power outage and damage to the overhead lines (catenary), affected the section between Sevilla-Santa Justa and Guadajoz stations, as well as the standard gauge line between Brenes and Sevilla-Santa Justa. Adif and Endesa collaborated to resolve the fault, which was caused by a high-voltage cable falling.
One of the affected trains was the one connecting Madrid with Huelva, which remained stopped in the province of Córdoba since 7:50 PM. On board were a group of 61 students from the Aula de la Experiencia of the University of Huelva, returning from a trip to Zaragoza.
“"Despite the long and anxious wait at Córdoba station, the University of Huelva students managed to remain calm, assuring this newspaper that they fortunately arrived home in good condition past 4:00 AM."
Thanks to the private management of the Association of the Aula de la Experiencia, the students were able to continue their journey back to the Huelva capital on a bus that departed after 11:30 PM, arriving at their final destination around 4:00 AM.
The fault, which occurred at 7:47 PM, caused significant damage to the catenary and led to a fire, resulting in the temporary suspension of rail service in the area.
