The government control session will focus on the Ministry's actions after the tragic event and the minister's absence from the agents' funeral. The opposition, led by the PP, could present a new parliamentary censure motion.
The PP's Interior spokesperson, Ana Belén Vázquez, will question the minister on whether he believes the agents who died in Huelva did so in an "occupational accident", referencing previous statements by former First Deputy Prime Minister María Jesús Montero. Meanwhile, the PP's Secretary for Regeneration, Cuca Gamarra, will ask about the Ministry's priorities, while spokesperson Borja Sémper will question if the minister is "up to the task".
The minister, who was in the Canary Islands responding to a hantavirus emergency when the events occurred, was booed at an event in Baeza (Jaén), where he expressed his "rage" and "pain", but not "powerlessness".
The Popular Group will also submit an urgent interpellation on the fight against drug trafficking. They will recall the bill approved in the Senate to classify the work of State Security Forces and Corps and Customs Surveillance officials as a high-risk profession, an initiative yet to be debated in the Congress.
Vox will also submit an interpellation regarding the priorities of the Ministry of the Interior. Both interpellations will lead to motions to be voted on in the late May plenary session, with the possibility of including a request for the minister's censure.
Additionally, UPN deputy Alberto Catalán Higueras will ask the minister why the Government is allegedly withholding information about the increase in crime in Navarre and the rest of Spain.
