The Pablo de Olavide University, in collaboration with the University of Huelva and the University of Seville, is organizing the 15th International Workshop on the Physics of Excited Nucleons (NSTAR 2026), a landmark scientific event.

The workshop will take place from September 7th to 11th at the Hotel Ribera de Triana, located in Plaza de Chapina. This gathering is one of the most significant international forums for studying the deep structure of matter, bringing together over 150 experts in particle and nuclear physics.
The primary objective of the event is to present the latest advancements in the research of nucleons, such as protons and neutrons, and their excited states. The goal is to understand the organization of matter and the mechanisms that bind the fundamental components of atomic nuclei.
Over five days, researchers from Europe, America, and Asia will share experimental and theoretical results. Nucleons, once considered elementary particles, are composed of quarks and gluons, interacting through the strong nuclear force.
The study of excited states of nucleons allows for the analysis of their behavior when they absorb energy. These transformations are crucial for understanding fundamental physics questions, such as the origin of visible matter's mass, the confinement of quarks and gluons, and the emergence of composite particles according to quantum chromodynamics (QCD).
The scientific program will feature plenary lectures and parallel sessions focusing on baryons, the particle family to which protons and neutrons belong. Topics will include nucleon excited states, the internal structure of matter, baryonic resonances, neutrino interactions, and the search for exotic hadrons like pentaquarks. Results from particle beam experiments and techniques such as meson photoproduction and electroproduction will also be presented.
