“"The objective of the action is to reorder circulation in the Forum. The 27-meter diameter circle has a dual function: when air shows commemorating the Plus Ultra flight are held, parachutists can land there, and we will also use it as a heliport, because we do not have any heliport in the nearby area."

The Huelva Provincial Council has allocated over 1.4 million euros for the urbanization of an esplanade next to the Ibero-American Forum of La Rábida, transforming it into a public car park with 447 spaces and new landscaped areas.
The project, with a budget of 1,405,967.8 euros, aims to improve traffic regulation and flow in the area, as well as to extend existing green spaces. The works, with an execution period of four months, are expected to begin after the summer.
The new parking facility will offer 427 general spaces, including 12 for electric vehicles with chargers, 15 for users with reduced mobility, and 5 for authorities. Additionally, 11 spaces will be specifically designated for buses. The intervention covers an area of approximately 25,000 square meters, from the Plaza del Descubrimiento to the Ibero-American Forum, and includes improving the slope below the Monastery of La Rábida with native vegetation.
A distinctive feature of the car park will be the full-scale representation of the Plus Ultra seaplane's silhouette, measuring 22.5 x 17.25 meters, using reddish-yellow concrete pavers within a 27-meter diameter circle. This design will not only commemorate the historic flight but will also serve as a heliport and landing zone for parachutists during air shows, as explained by Juan Daniel Romero, deputy for the La Rábida Management Unit.
Landscape integration is a key aspect of the project, with the planting of low-maintenance tree and shrub species adapted to the local climate, such as cork oak and mastic, to create shade and green screens. Furthermore, a direct connection between the lower and upper parts of La Rábida is planned via wooden walkways, linking the esplanade with the Monastery of La Rábida and channeling rainwater towards the freshwater lagoon in front of the Muelle de las Carabelas. A children's playground will also be installed next to the Plaza de los Frailes.
