The Socialist Municipal Group in the Huelva City Council has submitted a question for this Friday's plenary session, demanding explanations from the Governing Team regarding the "lamentable state" of Puerto Moral square, located in the Vistalegre neighborhood. The situation is exacerbated by the completion of a private housing development in the area.
According to the PSOE, after more than two years of construction and its conclusion approximately two months ago, the construction company has left "significant damage in the square and an absolutely desolate and dangerous image for the residents." The square currently presents "numerous safety risks and evident degradation," with dismantled streetlights, broken tiles, uncovered ditches, uprooted trees, concrete debris, and exposed metal rebar.
The socialists describe the square's condition as "unworthy of a city that cares for its neighborhoods," highlighting that it is a public space used by families, children, and the elderly that is now "practically impassable and poses an evident risk".
Furthermore, the PSOE denounces the "neglect" of the garden areas and flowerbeds, where weeds and dirt proliferate, without the City Council having carried out any cleaning or restoration actions.
The party considers it "incomprehensible" that the City Council has not yet demanded the immediate restoration of the public space nor acted to guarantee safety after the completion of the private work that has damaged the surroundings.
Therefore, the Socialist Municipal Group is asking the Governing Team what measures will be taken to "demand the comprehensive and safe recovery of Puerto Moral square from the developer and construction company".
