The President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, has urged for tougher penalties against drug trafficking and increased resources for security forces, during a rally in Málaga attended by the Huelva candidacy.

The Popular Party's candidacy for Huelva in the Andalusian Parliament participated this Sunday in a political event held at the Carranque Javier Imbroda Sports Center in Málaga. The rally, which gathered over 6,000 people, was led by the President of the Junta and candidate for re-election, Juanma Moreno.
During his speech, Moreno called for mobilization ahead of the upcoming regional elections on May 17. He emphasized the importance of securing a sufficient majority to guarantee stability, security, and a future for Andalucía.
A significant portion of his address focused on the fight against drug trafficking. This stance comes a day after attending the funeral in Huelva for two Guardia Civil officers who died during a pursuit of a drug boat off the coast of Huelva.

"Everyone involved in the drug trafficking chain must pay for it."

In this context, Moreno requested that the national leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, promote a reform of the Penal Code once his party assumes control of the Spanish Government. The aim would be to stiffen penalties related to drug trafficking and provide more material and human resources to the security forces.
The Andalusian president expressed his sorrow over the “immense pain” felt during the funeral in Huelva and also recalled the deaths of two Guardia Civil officers in Barbate two years prior, who were run over by a drug boat. He criticized the “passivity” of the central Government in providing adequate resources for agents combating this illicit activity.
Furthermore, he warned that the drug trafficking issue is no longer confined to Cádiz but has spread across the entire Andalusian coast, from Pulpí to Ayamonte. Moreno also criticized the absence of the Minister of Interior at the officers' funeral, arguing that public officials have a “moral and functional obligation” to support victims and their families.
For his part, Alberto Núñez Feijóo endorsed the Andalusian president's statements, reaffirming the PP's commitment to strengthening the fight against drug trafficking and supporting the state security forces.
