The fair, recognized as a Provincial Tourist Singularity by the Diputación de Málaga, will feature a market with fifty stalls dedicated to agri-food and artisanal products. Additionally, an extensive program of activities has been designed for the enjoyment of all ages.
The presentation of this festivity highlighted its promotion through the 'Vente a freír espárragos' strategy, which aims to enhance the natural and cultural heritage, traditions, and gastronomy of Sierra de Yeguas. The event's brand image is inspired by a bunch of asparagus, incorporating representative elements of the municipality such as hiking, Holy Week, and gastronomy.
“"Gastronomic festivals are essential to boost inland tourism and highlight the traditions of Malaga, the recipes of our municipalities, and zero-kilometer products."
The fairgrounds of Sierra de Yeguas, spanning 7,400 square meters, will be the main venue for the fair. This year, cheese will play a special role, as the municipality is part of the European Cheese Route. As a novelty, the market bar will serve churros made with asparagus, an innovative culinary proposal.
Activities will begin on Saturday with the III Sierra de los Caballos Half Marathon, part of the 28th Provincial Cycling Circuit. At midday, attendees can enjoy a tasting of 'espárragos a la flamenca,' prepared by a renowned chef, and the traditional asparagus paella, which will feature the collaboration of a local catering service.
For the youngest visitors, the fairgrounds will offer an inflatable castle, attractions, and face painting, as well as a playroom service in the multi-purpose hall for children aged 3 to 10. A tourist train will connect the fairgrounds with Plaza de Andalucía for much of the day, and in the afternoon, a concert will liven up the atmosphere with music from the 80s and 90s.
The municipality has also launched a new circular hiking route, the #SDY route, eight kilometers long. This itinerary covers the old town of Sierra de Yeguas, the hamlet of Navahermosa, and the Sierra de los Caballos, integrating into Stage 18 of the Great Malaga Path. The Sierra de los Caballos offers panoramic views of the provinces of Seville and Malaga, and features various marked points of interest for visitors.
