The SAE School of Training in Crafts, Restoration and Heritage Rehabilitation, known as the Albayzín Center, is the main venue for this edition of the European Artistic Craft Days in the province of Granada. Under the motto 'With the heart in the craft', the initiative emphasizes the importance of artisanal work as a collective practice, its territorial roots, and its contribution to rural development.
A total of 240 students from Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO), Baccalaureate, and Vocational Training, from educational centers in Granada such as IES Albayzín, IES Virgen de las Nieves, IES La Contraviesa, 'Cpifp' Hurtado de Mendoza, IES Pedro Soto de Rojas, and IES Ilíberis, will participate in the workshops. These will take place at the former Convento de Santa Inés, current headquarters of the Albayzín Center, from 10:00 to 13:30.
The training program covers various artisanal disciplines, including brass jewelry, sgraffito ceramics, creative ceramics, candle making, miyuki techniques (Japanese glass bead weaving), puppet creation, and amigurumi (Japanese crochet technique for small dolls). All workshops are taught by specialized professionals, aiming to introduce traditional crafts to new generations and ensure their continuity.
In parallel, the program extends to other parts of the province of Granada with activities open to all audiences, such as open days, ceramic workshops, and live demonstrations. These initiatives, promoted in Spain by Fundesarte and Oficio y Arte in collaboration with the general directorates of Commerce of the autonomous communities, seek to foster direct contact between artisans and citizens.
Additionally, the Albayzín Center hosts the exhibition 'From Úbeda to Albaicín: where heritage comes to life', organized by the Úbeda Artisans Association. The exhibition, featuring 56 pieces from 17 workshops, explores disciplines such as pottery, forging, and wood carving, establishing a dialogue between the heritage of Úbeda (Jaén) and Granada's Albaicín neighborhood, both World Heritage Sites. The exhibition will be open until May 9.
