The medical activity, coordinated by the Andalusian Health Service, reached a milestone on April 29. During a night shift, a multidisciplinary team of over 20 professionals, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff, performed two liver transplants at the same time in separate operating rooms.
The success of these interventions, which lasted over nine hours, was made possible by the rapid response of the on-call staff and the support of professionals who volunteered to assist during the emergency. This collective effort highlights the operational capacity of the Granada hospital.
“"I am fortunate to coordinate a highly professional group, with extensive experience in this technique and a great sense of vocation and commitment that makes this hospital a benchmark in liver transplantation."
Since the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital began its liver transplant program on April 10, 2002, the center has accumulated a track record of over 700 procedures. The process requires complex logistics ranging from organ donation coordination to intensive post-operative patient care.
